TThe Yorkshire and Humber region experienced an increase in exporting activity between the first quarter and second quarter of 2008, according to the latest UK Regional Trade in Goods provisional estimates, published by HM Revenue and Customs on 11 September.
The total value of exports from the region increased from 3,381 (£m) to 3,565. The total number of exporters also increased from 3,583 to 3,740.
The value of imports into the region increased from 4,132 to 4,203 (£m).
In relation to specific sectors, most sectors saw an increase in relation to the value of exports. The value of exports in the chemicals sector, for example, increased from 488 to 557 (£m) between quarter one and two, while the value of exports in the mineral fuels sector increased from 346 to 393 (£m).
In relation to exports to specific country groups, several experienced an increase. Exports from Yorkshire & Humber to the EU increased from 1,741 to 1,853 (£m), exports to Latin America and the Caribbean increased from 49 to 72 (£m) and exports to Western Europe (excluding EU) increased from 127 to 203 (£m).
