Minister’s seal of approval for Yorkshire healthcare sector

A state-of-the-art facility in Yorkshire that provides a training platform for staff, surgeons and distributors to practice laparoscopic surgery techniques has gained the seal of approval from Small Business Minister Lord Davies of Abersoch.

Officially opening the new unit at Surgical Innovations in Leeds, he praised the facility for further bolstering the credentials of Yorkshire and the Humber as a driving force in healthcare technology innovation.

“The Yorkshire and Humber region has a reputation for healthcare technology excellence and the visit to Surgical Innovations was something I was especially looking forward to in this regard – providing further evidence of the pioneering work that is pushing UK companies to the fore of international markets,” commented Lord Davies.

The Minister enjoyed a guided tour of the research and development suites at Surgical Innovations before trying his hand, with encouraging results, at keyhole surgery in the new training centre.

Lord Davies was visiting West Yorkshire on behalf of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Medilink. He also addressed an Advanced Engineering Roadshow in Wakefield before meeting regional entrepreneurs and other successful healthcare companies for round-table discussions in Leeds.
