Country Focus: Brazil

BrazilOverview

Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world and by far the largest in South America. It has a population of around 178 million, with 83% of the population living in urban areas.

Brazil is a challenging market and potential exporters to the country will need to be prepared to put in plenty of time and commitment in order to succeed. However, the two countries already have an excellent relationship, providing a useful starting point for doing business.

Key sectors

The UK’s top exports to Brazil include:

  • Organic chemicals
  • Professional scientific instruments
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Electrical machinery
  • Power generation machinery
  • Road vehicles

BrazilReasons to do business with Brazil

UK exports of goods & services to Brazil were valued at £1.2bn in 2005, making the country the UK’s most important trading partner in Latin America.

There is a growing middle class in Brazil, who have considerable spending power and who appreciate high quality merchandise. If a product or service is competitive in world markets, it can be assumed that it is also likely to be so in Brazil.
